Gregory Jerome Stamps, 65, of Manassas, is facing charges in Montgomery County after a Bethesda resident caught him on camera breaking into a residence.
According to a Montgomery County Department of Police spokesperson, Stamps was detained in connection with at least two residential burglaries reported earlier this month on the 6000 block of Brookes Lane in Bethesda.
According to investigators, at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, the homeowner received a motion sensor alert on his cell phone and saw Stamps attempt to break into his vacant home through his home security cameras, prompting him to call 911.
When authorities arrived, they discovered a damaged window in the residence and tracked down Stamps, who matched the homeowner’s description.
Stamps attempted to flee but was captured following a brief chase. They found him in possession of stolen goods and an undisclosed sum of cash.
Police say that another homeowner on Brookes Lane came forward during his arrest to report that Stamps’ vehicle contained stolen property and money from their home.
Then, authorities accused Stamps of breaking into the second house and escaping with money and personal items.
The Montgomery County Central Processing Unit is holding Stamps without bond on charges of first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, resisting arrest, and malicious destruction of property.
