A 42-year-old Passaic man was detained in Rochelle Park after robbing a 68-year-old North Bergen man at a nearby ShopRite and Dunkin’ Donuts, according to investigators.
At 7:30 p.m., police dispatched themselves to the complex on West Passaic Street. According to Rochelle Park Police Capt. James DePreta, on Tuesday, September 24, a man later identified as Ramsey Thompson approached the victim and begged for money.
DePreta claims that when the victim resisted, they shoved him to the ground and violently stole his wallet from his back pocket.
Sgt. Brian Cobb, together with Patrolmen Todd Starling, Joe Buono, and Evan Migliore, noticed Thompson heading down Bennett Avenue and discovered him in possession of the victim’s wallet and its contents, according to the captain.
Officers charged Thompson with robbery and sent him to the Bergen County Jail. Officers discovered the wallet, which contained cash, credit cards, and gift cards, and returned it to the victim. The victim did not need medical attention.
