As September 2024 draws to a close, there have been several notable seizures taking place along the Texas border with Mexico. One such incident occurred on Saturday, September 21, when federal agents stationed at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge grew suspicious of a 21-year-old woman from Dallas who was attempting to re-enter the United States. And it turns out, their suspicions were not unfounded.
U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Officers made a startling discovery when they found twenty-two packages concealed in a car. These packages contained over fifty pounds of cocaine. The estimated street value of the seized cocaine is $675,850.
Three days prior, CBP Officers on the Del Rio International Bridge made a startling discovery. While inspecting a truck entering Texas from Mexico, they uncovered a concealed compartment. Upon further investigation, they found 23 packages containing more than 38 pounds of cocaine. This illicit substance had an estimated street value of $516,896.
These busts represent the ongoing trend of significant cocaine seizures along the U.S. Southern Border this month. For further information on this topic, you can read more HERE.
Other recent cash recoveries near the Texas border include five parcels containing $79,392 in undeclared currency stashed inside a vehicle crossing the Hidalgo International Bridge on September 23, 2024. The cash is thought to be illegal revenue carried across the border to one of Mexico’s gangs. Homeland Security agents in San Antonio are working to identify the source of the payments.
Meanwhile, in the Port of Presidio, US Customs officers checked numerous suspicious suitcases and discovered that a motorist had attempted to sneak a big shipment of — wait for it — bologna into Texas earlier this month!
The lunch meat load weighed approximately 750 pounds. In addition to the caught cold cuts, customs inspectors discovered that the driver was attempting to sneak a huge quantity of Mexican medications (242 boxes in total).
It’s likely that Texas intended to resell the meat and medications.
