“It is definitely right up there in probably the top ten worst environments that I’ve been in for animals,” said Ruth Thompson, the ANNA Shelter’s founder and director.

Following a phone call from Pennsylvania State Police at 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, the ANNA Shelter arrived at the location of the mistreated pets early Wednesday morning. Thompson arrived on the site and reported that just five dogs were inside the house, with the others left outside.

“Even the ones that were loose outside, at least they could forge; they could kind of look for what they could eat,” says Thompson. “There were a lot of dead rats; I’m guessing they were consuming those as they could.”

The freshly rescued pets will not be available for visits or adoptions until perhaps next week.
