Four Rhode Island men have been charged with participating in a conspiracy to burglarize and steal high-end vehicles from dealerships in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. This announcement was made by United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha, who revealed the details in court documents unsealed today in U.S. District Court in Providence, R.I. The alleged thefts resulted in the loss of millions of dollars.
An indictment that was unsealed today has charged four individuals with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property and interstate transportation of stolen property. The individuals involved are Belter Giron, aged 28 from North Providence, Alberto Rivera, aged 24 from Cranston, Richard Robinson, aged 32 from Providence, and Onix Eduardo, aged 27 also from Providence.
Four defendants, namely Alberto Rivera, Belter Giron, Richard Robinson, and Onix Eduardo, have been mentioned in recently unsealed court records. It is worth noting that these individuals had previously appeared in federal court after being charged through a criminal complaint. Alberto Rivera and Belter Giron made their initial appearances on July 30 and July 31, 2024, respectively. Richard Robinson, on the other hand, appeared in court on August 19, 2024. As for Onix Eduardo, he appeared before a U.S. Magistrate on September 3, 2024. Presently, Giron and Eduardo are being held in federal custody, while Rivera has been returned to the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institutions, where he was previously detained. In contrast, Robinson has been released on bond.
According to court documents, a group of individuals is accused of engaging in a series of burglaries at car dealerships between February 2023 and July 2023. During this time, they allegedly stole around 120 vehicles with a collective value of approximately $5 million. Their targets primarily consisted of high-end luxury car brands, including Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Rolls Royce, Bentley, and Land Rover. Additionally, they are said to have targeted a motorcycle dealership in Pennsylvania, where they took nineteen premium Husqvarna motorcycles. The court documents also allege that eleven dirt bikes, initially stolen from a dealership in Phillipston, MA, were transported to Rhode Island and stored at Giron’s residence in North Providence.
According to the charging documents, members of the conspiracy were found to have engaged in numerous conversations relating to vehicle thefts, the utilization of these vehicles by Giron and others, and their subsequent sale. Giron is alleged to have acted as a middleman, facilitating the sale of stolen vehicles to associates both within and outside of Rhode Island, as well as to a wider network of individuals. Surveillance footage acquired by the Providence Police reportedly shows individuals resembling Giron and Robinson covering a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in the driveway of a Providence residence on March 13, 2023. This particular vehicle, valued at $96,000, along with three others, had been reported stolen from a Hampstead, New Hampshire dealership just one day prior.
Law enforcement authorities have successfully recovered a total of forty-one vehicles and eleven dirt bikes, which are believed to have been stolen by the members of the conspiracy. The majority of these vehicles were found in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. One specific vehicle, a Range Rover, was discovered in a shipping container located in Elizabeth, New Jersey. It was determined that the vehicle was intended to be transported to Africa.
The prosecution of the case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Paul F. Daly, Jr. and Julie M. White.
