Welcome to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Christiano François and Raymond Lee.
After re-signing players that featured for the club last year, head coach Bob Lilley brought in some familiar faces. The two signed contracts for 2018, with a club option for 2019.
François and Lee featured for Lilley as part of the Rochester Rhinos last year. François made 12 appearances, while Lee featured 14 times.
François spent time during the season with an injury.
The 24-year-old from Haiti spent time in Portugal during his career, signing with SC Vila Real and Felgueiras 1932. During his time with Vila Real, François made 14 appearances, scoring one goal. With Felgueiras, he made 26 appearances and scored three goals.
He attended college at the University of Maryland, but left early to join the MLS. However, despite being claimed in the 2014 Waiver Draft, François never appeared for D.C. United.
“We’re expecting big things from Christiano,” Lilley said. “He’s a special athlete because he has that rare combination of breakaway speed and endurance. He’s very capable of running at players and causing chaos in the attacking end, while also doing his share of work on the defensive side of the ball.”
As for Lee, the product of the Sporting Kansas City Academy went to college at the University of St. Louis before getting picked in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union.
He made one appearance for the Union, and two for the Harrisburg City Islanders, where he was loaned.
The 2016 season saw him make 19 appearances for the Tulsa Roug
hnecks before joining the Rhinos.
“Ray is someone I felt had a strong season with me at Rochester this past year,” Lilley said. “He’s an exceptional passer for a left back, likes to go forward and is very effective in the defensive end, especially in 1v1 situations.”
Lee mainly featured at left back for the Rhinos in 2017.
The Riverhounds now have seven players on their roster for the 2018 season. Lee and François are joinining Kay Banjo, Romeo Parkes, Chevaughn Walsh, Tobi Adewole and captain Kevin Kerr.
