The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are borrowing another player from the Columbus Crew SC.
The club announced on Friday that Connor Maloney will join the team on a match-by-match basis. The Riverhounds have a loan agreement deal with the Crew, who are their MLS affiliate.
The Riverhounds already have Abuchi Obinwa and Marshall Hollingsworth on their roster from the Crew. Earlier in the season, the Riverhounds also brought in Ben Swanson and Lalas Abubakar.
“Connor is someone I know well from playing against him at Penn State, and he’s always been one of my favorite players,” said head coach Dave Brandt. “Quick, aggressive, skilled, and a strong fighting spirit, I’m looking forward to having the chance to work with him on the field.”
This MLS season, Maloney has appeared in one match for the Columbus Crew, coming on as a substitute and featuring for 45 minutes. He did not total any goals, assists or shots.
However, at Pennsylvania State University, Maloney made 73 appearances for the Nittany Lions. All of the matches were starts for the defender. He finished his college career with 26 goals and 17 assists.
The Riverhounds are in desperate need of help on the defense, with Ryan Adeleye dealing with an injury and Rich Balchan out for the year. Furthermore, Ritchie Duffie is out with a head injury.
The Riverhounds will face Louisville City FC on Saturday at Highmark Stadium. Kick off time is set for 7 p.m.
