The Pittsburgh Panthers hosted Morehead State on Friday night for a post-Thanksgiving Day feast. The Panthers were able to edge out their competition by a final score of 76-63.
A big part to why the Panthers won was the 11 three-point shots made by the players. Leading the Panthers in scoring was Michael Young, who put up 20 points. Jamel Artis put up 17 points while Cameron Johnson followed behind, putting up 16 points.
Head coach Kevin Stallings praised his group for making plenty of three-point shots after the game.
“I don’t want to depend on going 9-12 from three very often, but we took good shots and we made them,” Stallings said. “This group is really capable of making the game look easy.”
Other players to get on the score sheet were Chris Jones, Ryan Luther, Corey Manigault, and Jonathan Milligan. The Panthers had four players- Sheldon Jeter, Rozelle Nix, Justice Kithcart and Damon Wilson- that didn’t put up a single point.
While Jeter did not put up any points, the forward did lead the team in rebounds with eight. Young led the team in assists with four while Johnson had the only steal of the game for the Panthers.
As for Morehead, they were led in scoring by DeJuan Marrero, who put up 18 points. Other double digit scorers were Malik Maitland (16) and Xavier Moon (15). Morehead was led in rebounds by Marrero, who recorded 13 rebounds, while Moon led in assists with four.
The Panthers will return to action against the Maryland Terrapins on Nov. 29 at the University of Maryland. The Panthers and Terrapins will tip-off at 7 p.m. and the game will be aired on ESPN2.
