John Cena announced on Twitter Wednesday night that he would miss 6-9 months due to shoulder surgery, thus missing WrestleMania this year. That is an absolute huge blow to the WWE, whether you love to cheer or love to boo Cena. He is the face of the company, a company that wants to put over 100,000 people in AT&T Stadium in Dallas. So what options does WWE have going forward, three months away from the biggest wrestling event of the year?

Along with Cena, Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Cesaro, Randy Orton and Sting are all injured and won’t be wrestling at WrestleMania. Nobody is sure if Daniel Bryan will be cleared to wrestle. The Rock announced that he would be at WrestleMania, but it is unknown whether or not he will wrestle or just make some sort of appearance, due to his Hollywood movie career. This leaves Vince McMahon and the WWE forced to change what game plan they had in place.

As for Cena, he was likely going to face the Undertaker this year. So now what for the Deadman? If the Rock is actually going to wrestle this year, this matchup would be a good one. Both men would be limited and that is fine. The two stars have never faced off at WrestleMania, which is why this would be an excellent paring. There doesn’t have to be an elaborate story involved as it can just be a match out of respect and that it hasn’t ever happened on this stage. If it is not the Rock, I’m not sure who it could be.

Roman Reigns will defend his WWE World Heavyweight championship in the Royal Rumble match, which was announced on Raw this past Monday. Cena’s injury could be the reason McMahon decided to put Reigns in the match defending his title. This sets up an intriguing story heading into the Rumble. Triple H winning the title isn’t out of the question and is something that will set up a match with him and Reigns at WrestleMania. I feel this is the best-case scenario for Reigns as Triple H will be able to get him over and there won’t be a mixed reaction from the crowd.

The next big player is Brock Lesnar, who will make his return next Monday on Raw. He will likely announce that he will be in the Rumble match, which is where his feud for WrestleMania would start. I would absolutely love it if Kevin Owens was the guy who gets to wrestle Lesnar at ‘Mania this year. I think Owens is a guy who is someone that is a believable option to potentially beat Lesnar. The mic work between Owens and Paul Heyman would be gold.

There are rumors of the WWE signing four huge names from New Japan Pro Wrestling and this could be a time to utilize them, especially AJ Styles. Could we see some sort of invasion angle with these four guys or even some of these guys mixed with NXT talent? That would be pretty great to watch, if done correctly.

The loss of Cena is huge and now McMahon and his creative mind will have to think of something huge for his brainchild that is WrestleMania if he wants to put over 100,000 people in the seats. The Royal Rumble could and should set up some of the WrestleMania matches.

I’m 45 years old and I don’t hate John Cena. Sad news that he won’t be part of WrestleMania. On another note, I have been thinking for sometime that a WrestleMania match between Reigns and Triple H would be gold, but I think we need to see Reigns stomp H and retain. Also, I can’t help but remember that Triple H had the concussion problems a couple of years ago that supposedly forced him out of the ring. Would love to see Reigns beat him unconscious and leave Triple H concussed (supposedly) in the ring escaping with a win and then being torn apart by the League of Nations as they continue that feud. I think that would make for a great WrestleMania main event.
