Hixon: This is still Paige’s house

Good things come to those who wait.

Paige made her long-awaited return to WWE this past Monday night on RAW, interrupting the fatal four-way match between Alicia Fox, Mickie James, Sasha Banks and Bayley.

She wanted to let everyone know one simple message, “I’m back.”

But she didn’t come alone, bringing NXT superstars Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose with her to wreak havoc on the RAW women’s division.

Not only did they lay waste to the competitors in the ring, they also made sure to give RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss the same treatment backstage.

They let everyone know that no one was safe, and that the WWE was still Paige’s house.

The inaugural NXT Women’s Champion and former Diva’s Champion had been out of action since Jun. 27, 2016, due to a neck injury that required surgery.

While she was recovering, she was involved in a couple scandals outside the ring that could have easily derailed her career. Luckily, she was able to put all of that behind her and was cleared to return to in-ring competition in September of 2017.

Paige is one of my favorite women’s wrestlers of all time, so her return on Monday was a big deal for me. I’m glad that her and WWE were able to work things out so she was able to make her comeback.

It was obvious that I wasn’t alone in that sentiment; the crowd in Houston gave her quite a warm reception. While I was hoping she would get a loud reaction upon her return, I was also nervous that too much time had passed for people to remain excited about her.

But once her music hit, the crowd blew the roof off the arena. Social media also lost their collective minds —myself included watching at home — with Paige being one of the top ten trending topics on Twitter Monday night.

Now the question is, where does Paige go from here?

If the women’s segments on RAW are any indication, it looks as if she’ll be going after Bliss’ championship fairly soon. I think WWE is holding off on having Asuka go for the title for a little while, possibly wanting the casual fans to get more acquainted with her before she’s inserted into the title picture.

With her sights set on Bliss, along with having Deville and Rose in her corner, I wouldn’t be surprised if Paige becomes RAW Women’s Champion within the next couple months.

Another thing to keep an eye on is all of the matches Paige could have now that she’s officially back in the RAW women’s division. Bliss, Banks, Bayley, Fox, James and Nia Jax will provide plenty of intriguing match-ups for Paige in the future.

It’s nice to have some fresh faces in what was becoming a stagnant women’s division. In one night, Paige, Rose and Deville turned the entire roster on its head.

Regardless of what happens in the coming weeks, one thing is for certain: it’s great to finally have Paige back.
